Lead:

The book of Exodus is arguably one of the most important in all the Old Testament. Why?

Intro:

Given the super-big-deal that Genesis is, it’s easy to overlook that Exodus is probably the most important book of the Old Testament because it’s the story of two covenant partners — God and Israel. Here’s God who we grow to see as mighty and faithful and and holy…and a rescuer… and it really stands at the intersection of the promises of the past and their culmination in the future.

Now there’s a reeeeally big truth we see in Exodus which is as true today as it was then…that it’s not by their merits that Israel earns God’s favor. It’s His act of love. And not coincidentally, this is what we’ve just been talking about in Galatians, too…that <sound effect>…and we’re not freed from sin to do whatever we want, but to do what we ought.
