How and why does the writer of Hebrews make a big deal about Melchizedek?

Intro:

I know you were thinking about naming your next kid Melchizedek, so let’s talk about that today. You heard this funky name a couple days ago in Psalm 110 and again yesterday at the end of Hebrews 6 saying that Jesus has become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. But you may remember that you heard about Melchizedek back in Genesis.

So… we’re going to get to today’s reading, and we’ll tidy up this Melchizedek biz once we hear more about it in Hebrews 7.
