Lead:

As goes the leader, so go the people…

Intro:

Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan” (NIV), and some translations say “when the righteous are in authority.” And that’s exactly what we saw yesterday with Hezekiah’s leadership in turning the people back to God. Interestingly, yesterday we read that not all were willing (which makes sense), but that as those who willing responded to God worshiped with their money, they ended up with a surplus such that they gave money back to the people. And that Hezekiah prospered, too.

Today we hear more of Hezekiah’s story. And by way of a history reminder, recall that Assyria conquered the northern kingdom of Israel in 722BC. Now Assyria threatens the southern kingdom of Judah (where Jerusalem is), and on that cliff hanger, let’s read.
